Unit 6 Feedback

Hi Kristy, Thank you for your work on your website section. I found your section very informative and very relatable. Your section had the three basic elements required in this assignment with the correct number of graphics that were appropriate to your topic area. I felt as if your writing style was easily understood. However, I noticed during the section where you discussed the top apps, some sentences were complete and others were not. I would suggest using complete sentences here or using fragments only as a list instead of the combination of the two. I think the information provided can be used by healthcare providers, especially those who may not directly work with adolescent females. As an occupational therapist, this is something I could assist a client in learning to utilize in her daily routine if she was having issues related to her menstrual cycle and tracking and wanted to address this concern. Although your age group is late adolescence, I do believe the information...

Complementary Medicine Section Comments

Kristy (and Julie), I was glad to see a section related to both endometriosis and acupuncture. The former is a condition I know many females personally who struggle with, and the latter is a poorly-understood option for pain. Where I live, there is an unexplainably high percentage of infertility and infertility-linked conditions and these conditions are of current conversation in the medical community often. Your explanation of the condition really is accurate, yet simple enough to easily take in. It's sometimes eye-opening to realize that very small amounts of tissue disease can make the sufferer's entire abdomen be painful. I would have liked to see the possible side-effects listed as this, to me, seems like the only negative of the treatment and a good way to weigh out the decision to try it or suggest it to a patient. From personal experience, there are limited treatment options for endometriosis, especially if one is trying to conceive. The surgeries and medicational...

Feedback Unit 5

Hi Kristy! I really appreciate you and Julie focusing on endometriosis for this unit. I hear of so many women struggling from it, but I'll be honest, I didn't know much information about it! Your background information on the disease, how it works, and what causes it was really great! The video and images you chose did a great job of explaining what exactly endometriosis is and why it is so painful for women. I think that if I was a woman suffering from some of these symptoms and came to your website for information I would be helped! I also think your choice of complementary medicine is very interesting! I had no idea that acupuncture could be used specifically to treat the pain associated with endometriosis. The only thing I wish you guys would have done is go more into the specifics of how the acupuncture helps and the overall process of it. I see the possible advantages and disadvantages, but I still don't understand how the procedure works. Other than that, your vi...

Unit 3 Feedback_Late Adolescence

Hi Julie and Kristy, I think that you’ve done a really nice job of organizing your information and making it clear, well articulated, and aesthetic.  The videos and visuals you’ve selected are great, all very appropriate.  The style of writing you’ve integrated is clear and concise.   If I were going to emphasize any one thing to help improve this page, I would advocate for more information.  There is such an enormous body of literature available to pull from as many research studies on body image and protective factors are conducted throughout college campuses, utilizing quantitative and qualitative data from this age group. And while we tend to think of early adolescents as being a markedly volatile time period for young women, as women leave the family unit and increase personal freedoms and self-identity, this can also be an extremely tumultuous time in a young woman’s life.  If I were consuming this information from th...

Introduction

Image
Hi, my name is Kristy and I live in Lubbock, Texas with my dog Bentley who is like my fur child, he will be 10 in November.  I went to Texas Tech University for my undergraduate years and am graduating from the MHS program of St. Augustine this December of 2018.  I currently work for an Orthopedic Surgeon at a hospital and contract to a small town high school covering their sports a couple days a week.  My favorite city is my hometown city of Austin, TX.  I would say that my positive characteristic is being optimistic about life’s situations which makes it easier to persevere through more difficult times.  Things can’t be bad forever so there always has to be a brighter moment.  I am hoping to gain from this class a better understanding of the different ways the female changes physically and physiologically over the different years and how that can affect the whole person.
