Complementary Medicine Section Comments

Kristy (and Julie),

I was glad to see a section related to both endometriosis and acupuncture. The former is a condition I know many females personally who struggle with, and the latter is a poorly-understood option for pain. Where I live, there is an unexplainably high percentage of infertility and infertility-linked conditions and these conditions are of current conversation in the medical community often.

Your explanation of the condition really is accurate, yet simple enough to easily take in. It's sometimes eye-opening to realize that very small amounts of tissue disease can make the sufferer's entire abdomen be painful. I would have liked to see the possible side-effects listed as this, to me, seems like the only negative of the treatment and a good way to weigh out the decision to try it or suggest it to a patient.

From personal experience, there are limited treatment options for endometriosis, especially if one is trying to conceive. The surgeries and medicational options aren't of low cost. Acupuncture, however, is considered safe and really isn't outrageously priced in relation to the possible benefit. I know that my insurance, for instance, actually covers it partially.

Thanks!
Kaela
