Unit 3 Feedback_Late Adolescence
Hi Julie and Kristy,
I think that you’ve done a really nice job of organizing your information and making it clear, well articulated, and aesthetic. The videos and visuals you’ve selected are great, all very appropriate. The style of writing you’ve integrated is clear and concise. If I were going to emphasize any one thing to help improve this page, I would advocate for more information. There is such an enormous body of literature available to pull from as many research studies on body image and protective factors are conducted throughout college campuses, utilizing quantitative and qualitative data from this age group. And while we tend to think of early adolescents as being a markedly volatile time period for young women, as women leave the family unit and increase personal freedoms and self-identity, this can also be an extremely tumultuous time in a young woman’s life.
If I were consuming this information from the perspective of a 20-year old American female exposed to the tirade of sociocultural risk factors (probably living alone for the first time in my life and feeling the effects of school/work/life stress), I would be seeking concrete solutions and pathways for change. Beyond identifying what protective factors are and that they’re important, HOW to implement them may be some of the most important pieces of information to convey. I would consider adding a list of strategies specific to this population. The National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) has an incredible resource list on their website, discussing The Body Project, they include “10-steps to improve body image” which would be really appropriate. https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/learn/general-information/ten-stepsationaleatingdisorders.org
Additionally, these resources and recommendations for process improvement and positive change are great when the audience consuming literature from your page is that of healthcare professionals. If I were working specifically with this age group, and noticed that body image and disruptions of eating and exercise were concerns, I would want concrete evidence-based research supporting an action plan.
Keep up the good work, it’s such important information to share! - Heather
